Multiple Endings

This was made during my Freshman year of college, after completing the first verion of 'Morph'. Inspired by Morph's themes, I came up with this card game.

The main narrative of this game surrounded two entities who would either work together to save what was left of the world or fall apart. They weren't quite like gods or heroes so I refered them vaguely as figures.

In terms of the actual gameplay, each player would assume the role as one of the two figures. Then they play cards from their hand.

Some cards are resources such as types of land or living creatures. Others are action cards that drives the story forward.

Depending on which decks they drew their cards from, players would temporally travel from the Beginning to the End of the timeline.

Through the decisions and choices the players make, the outcome of the game will be determined.

The mechanics and card effects were prototyped with index cards. After rounds of playtesting to refine the card balance, the artwork were rendered.

The illustrations were sketched, inked, then watercolor painted onto stock cards.

Once dried, they were digitally scanned. The backdrop were edited into place. The cards' title and effects would also be added.

Afterwards, the cards were printed, cut out, and glued together. Once they were all assembled, they were packaged together inside a wooden box.

During the course of playtesting, most players opted for the happier endings after playing out the worser ones.

Some players were suprised by the ending they got since they didn't expect their earlier game choices to matter.

It was an enjoyable experience working on this cards and seeing the outcomes of each game.

I'll return someday to publish this. Or adapt the card game into a video game.
